Each country has restrictions and prohibitions on the trade of certain goods. All countries that are Members of the WTO have notified on which goods are classified as restricted or prohibited goods. In accordance with the East African Community Customs Management Act, there are goods that the import and export of which are prohibited or restricted. Prohibited goods shall neither enter nor leave any of the EAC Partner States, including Kenya, while the import and export of restricted goods are regulated by the Act or any written law in force in Kenya.
In Kenya, the list of restricted and prohibited goods is established in the Second and Third Schedules of the Act, which were most recently updated in 2004 and can be viewed here.
